If you are having Gas work carried out... You should be aware it is illegal for anyone to work with Gas unless they are registered with Gas Safe. The Gas Safe register is the official list of Gas businesses who are registered to work safely and legally on boilers, cookers, fires and all other gas appliances. Here’s how you can avoid employing a potentially lethal illegal tradesperson and ensure you only use a Gas Safe registered engineer. All Gas Safe registered engineers must carry a Gas Safe ID card. Don’t be afraid to ask to see it when they arrive at your property to carry out Gas work – and remember to check the front and back of the card. Details to check on the front of the card: • The engineer's photo • The start and expiry dates • The licence number • The security hologram • The engineer is from the business you employed Details to check on the back of the card: • The engineer is qualified to carry out the gas job you’ve employed them to do • Their qualifications are up-to-date For further verification, you can also check your engineer is Gas Safe registered at www.gassaferegister.co.uk - Check a Business. You can also call the Gas Safe Register on 0800 408 5500

As we head into Autumn... Here are a few tips for seasonal heating: Have your boiler serviced once a year (ideally before winter) to avoid any problems in the coldest months. Make your boiler more efficient by adding a Programmer and Room Thermostat, and Thermostatic Valves on your radiators. Smart Controls you can add to your heating system enable you to be in control even when you are not at home, and the most sophisticated controls can zone your home to be heated at different temperatures and time settings in different areas or rooms. How to make savings on your heating costs Set your heating to be off when you’re out at work, away for the day or have gone to bed. Investing in Smart controls can make this process easier. Dress appropriately according to the season, think cosy jumpers, not t-shirts! Lower the heating on individual radiators in rooms which you are not using, easy to do with TRV’s. Touch your radiators. The heat output should be even over the whole radiator. If you feel distinct cold spots in either the top or bottom, have the problem rectified, your radiators are not working to their full potential.
